I am an opalholic. I have mined opal here in Arizona where I live. I have cut opal for a Lightning Ridge miner, cutting the famed black opal (which really spoiled me).
I now work almost exclusively with opal triplets as they allow me to share the true beauty of the gem with everyone at an affordable price. Opal triplets are a three part gemstone with a black glass back to add depth to the colors of the opal layer fixed to the glass. The final layer is a rounded quartz cap which protects the soft opal underneath and gives the sense that the stone is filled with the opal's colors. I use pretty big stones and beleive me they are very rare.
I have been doing wire sculpture for a couple of years now. I took a little time off for my disability but am back at it again. I have a bad back so make all of my jewelry laying down using my stomach as a table. Sculpting jewelry gives me a great deal of pleasure, I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do.
